Bike Right in Liverpool City Region

Bike Right have been working with Liverpool City Region for 15 years, delivering the areas Bikeability programme (the largest in the country) and other cycling activities from our office and workshop in Bootle.

Our activities in the region are managed by our local office team and delivered by a large squad of instructors working locally with primary, junior and secondary schools, providing Learn to Ride, Combined Level 1&2 Bikeability and Level 3 sessions. Our Bootle office is home to our main operations team for contracts in the North West and Midlands as well as the main workshop for our fleet of bikes.

Bikeability
Schools in Merseyside can request free Bikeability training.

Some of the benefits of a child cycling to and from school:

  • Quieter, safer roads - having fewer cars around school makes it safer for parents and children to walk or cycle on their journey to and from school. Fewer cars also means less pollution

  • Fitness and health - children need at least an hour of physical activity each day, and walking or cycling to school is a great way to get some of that exercise

  • Air quality - there are also concerns about the level of pollution children are exposed to when sitting inside cars in congested or slow-moving traffic. When planning a cycling journey to school, it may be possible to find a route that is quiet or traffic-free, and cycling through green spaces such as parks can make you feel calmer and happier

  • Concentration at school - children who are physically active on the way to school burn off some of their excess energy and are more able to settle down and focus well in lessons

  • Road-safety skills - good habits learned young are learned well. Teaching children to cycle safely to school will stand them in good stead for the rest of their life

  • Socialising and independence - cycling together with others means that children will have extra time in the day to build friendships and feel comfortable around other people

Available in school holidays for children in school year 5 and above (min 9 years old as at 1st September 2025).

To get the most benefit you’ll need to attend your session every day for the 5 days.

Choose from three levels based on your child's cycling ability:

1 - Less confident riders

2 - Mixed ability

3 - Regular and confident riders

The training starts in a local park and then those that are capable and safe are taken out onto local roads.

These are group sessions of up to 12 children with two instructors and last for 1 hour 45 minutes.

Ideally bring along your bike and helmet. We can lend bikes and helmets in certain locations - check the event listing for more information.
